🐿️ Welcome to Squirrels

In Squirrels Class, every child is encouraged to grow, explore and develop a lifelong love of learning. We believe that these early years at school are a very special time – full of curiosity, discovery and joy. Our classroom and outdoor areas are carefully designed to provide a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment where children can flourish both indoors and outdoors.

👩‍🏫 Meet the Team

  • Class Teacher: Mrs Jones

  • Teaching Assistants: Mrs Cunningham and Miss Woodhead

We work together to support your child’s learning, wellbeing and personal development. We are always happy to chat about your child’s progress, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

📚 Homework and Reading

At this stage, reading is the most valuable way you can support learning at home. We ask that children read at least three times per week with an adult. This regular practice helps to build fluency, confidence, and a real enjoyment of books.

We follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme, which gives children the tools to decode words and grow into confident, independent readers. Books are carefully matched to each child’s reading level.

🌟 What We Learn in Squirrels

Our curriculum is broad, balanced and full of hands-on opportunities. Through play, exploration, and carefully planned activities, children develop skills across:

  • 🗣️ Communication and language

  • 🤸 Physical development

  • 🤝 Personal, social and emotional development

  • 🔤 Literacy and ➕ Mathematics

  • 🌍 Understanding the world

  • 🎨 Expressive arts and design

Every day is different in Squirrels – from role play and construction to creative projects, story time and early problem-solving.

–––

🌳 Outdoor Learning

We place great value on the outdoors and spend lots of time in our garden and outdoor spaces. Outdoor learning allows children to explore the natural world, develop physical skills, and enjoy fresh air and exercise. Whether planting seeds, making mud pies, or practising teamwork through outdoor games, the garden is a vital part of our curriculum.

👕 Practical Information

We ask that all items of clothing, including coats, jumpers and PE kits, are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This helps us to quickly return lost items and ensures that nothing gets misplaced.

🎯 Our Vision in Squirrels

We aim to provide every child with a strong foundation for future learning. By fostering independence, curiosity, creativity and resilience, we prepare children not just for Year 1, but for life-long learning. Our goal is to ensure each child feels valued, confident, and ready to embrace new challenges.
