Religion and World Views

At Corringham C.E. Primary School, Religion and World Views plays an important part in helping our children to understand themselves, others and the diverse world in which they live.

Our RE curriculum is taught in line with the Lincolnshire Locally Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2025–2030. The syllabus takes a religion and worldviews approach, enabling children to develop their knowledge and understanding of Christianity, other major religious traditions and non-religious worldviews.

As a Church of England school, Christianity has an important place within our curriculum, while children are also given meaningful opportunities to encounter and explore a wide range of beliefs, traditions and ways of seeing the world.

What do we want our children to gain from RE?

We want RE to encourage our children to be curious, knowledgeable, thoughtful and respectful.

Through their learning, children are encouraged to:

• develop secure knowledge of different religions and worldviews;

• understand how beliefs can influence the way people live, behave and make decisions;

• recognise that people within the same religion or worldview may express their beliefs in different ways;

• ask meaningful questions about faith, belief, values and life;

• listen carefully to the views and experiences of others;

• discuss and explain their own ideas, while recognising that others may think differently;

• develop respect for people from different religious and cultural backgrounds; and

• reflect upon their own values, experiences and understanding of the world.

We want children to understand that RE is not simply about learning facts about religions. It is about exploring people, beliefs, communities and big questions and developing the skills needed to think carefully about them.
