Term 1 Autumn 2023
Welcome to the Owls Class. When the Owls arrive back at school they will notice that our classroom has grown! Having more room will enable pupils to move above more easily, give us all more space to work together and enable everyone to see the board easily. It may take a couple of weeks to get everything in place, but I know that eventually the new style classroom will make things much better for us all.
In the Owls Class this year we have 31 pupils: fifteen Year 5s and sixteen Year 6s. Mr Reeve is the class teacher and working alongside him will be the teaching assistants, Mrs Thorpe (each day), Mrs Milne (Wednesday and Friday) and Mrs E Burnett (Tuesday).
In Literacy, we will be reading and performing poetry and then reading together Roald Dahl's "BFG" novel. There will be a strong focus on creative writing and drama, but also in developing close-reading skills. Our History topic about the Ancient Maya Civilisation will also provide us with many interesting reading and writing opportunities.
In Maths,we will begin the year by exploring Place Value and number calculation skills and using and applying these skills to solve problems. We will spend time exploring 2D shape, time, fractions and decimal numbers.
On Monday afternoons, we will continue to learn French with Mrs Lievesley. Coach Ben, from Premier Education, will teach each class on Tuesday mornings. Pupils should come to scholl in their PE kits on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Half of the Owls Class will begin swimming lessons on Thursday afternoons, while the other half will have outdoor games lessons. Don't forget to bring your water bottle to school and to tie back long hair.
Our first Science topic of the year is Materials and Mixtures and there will be plenty of practical investigations.
The whole school "Achievement Assembly" takes place on Friday afternoons and parents are invited to attend.
